The Socio-economic sub-committee provides a forum for the members of the
committee to scrutinise and input into the socio-economic implications of the Site
Licence Companies the WCSSG represents and the Nuclear Decommissioning
Authority.
It also gives the opportunity to scrutinise the socio economic proposals of
the Parent Body Organisation once elected.

The Decommissioning sub-committee provides a forum for members of the
committee to scrutinise and input views into the decommissioning activities/progress
of the Site Licence Companies the WCSSG represents and the Nuclear
Decommissioning Authority.
Membership is made up of representatives from the existing West Cumbria Sites
Stakeholder Group and members of the site license companies.

| Commercial Sub-Committee

The Commercial sub-committee provides a forum for members of the committee to scrutinise and
input into the operational, production and transport activities of the Site Licence Companies the WCSSG represents.
It also gives the opportunity to scrutinise any potential Parent Body Organisation’s commercial proposals.
Membership is made up of representatives from the existing West Cumbria Sites
Stakeholder Group. Representatives can also be co-opted for their expertise if felt
appropriate.

| Environmental Health Sub-Committee |

The Environmental Health Sub-Committee pays particular attention to the
potential impact on human health of Sellafield and the Drigg Waste Management
Site.
It takes reports relating to the effects on the environment of
operations at Sellafield and Drigg and evaluates any implications for the
community.
Independent experts on this sub-committee cross reference BNFL's figures with
those of many other sources, in order to ensure that
possible risks are not overlooked.

| Emergency Planning Sub-Committee |

The Emergency Planning Sub-Committee makes an important contribution to the county's plans in the unlikely event of a hazardous incident at Sellafield.
Through free leaflets, documents available at 15 local libraries, and an information service, this Sub-Committee informs local residents what to do in an emergency.
It also regularly assesses plans for procedures and suggests possible improvements.

| Low Level Waste Repository Sub-Committee |

The Low Level Waste Repository Sub-Committee discusses all the issues surrounding the Low Level Waste site at Drigg. It includes representatives of the County and Borough Councils, Drigg and Carleton Parish Council, the Regulators (NII and EA) and has representation from the NDA, UKAEA and British Nuclear Group.
It considers issues such as transport, traffic movements, road infrastructure, name of the facility, noise and light pollution, and higher stacking .

| Calder Hall Sub-Committee (now disbanded) |

The Calder Hall Sub-Committee considered all isses related to the Calder Hall power station.
The station has now shut down and the main issues relate to defuelling the reactor and decommissioning the station.

| Windscale Sub-Committee (now disbanded) |
 |
The Windscale Sub-Commitee discussed matters concerning the decommisioning of the Windscale Piles
and the Windscale Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (WAGR).
Decommissioning of WAGR is being done as a demonstration of the process
of returning a nuclear power station to a brown-field site
