The Committee's remit is to scrutinise the on and off site arrangements to protect the workforce and public in the event of an emergency at Sellafield. These include:

-- Sellafield On Site Emergency Plan
-- Sellafield On Site Emergency Exercises
-- Cumbria County Council Off - Site Emergency Plan
-- Off - Site Multi Agency Emergency Exercises
-- Arrangements to warn and inform the public.

Current public warning and informing arrangements include:
-- 'What to do in an Emergency' booklets and Action Cards (see below)
-- Sellafield Emergency Information Line 0808 909 8090 - a freephone dial in phone system which gives emergency information about operations at the Site.
-- A computerised telephone warning system which automatically warns the public near the site of an emergency
