between the local community and the Site Operator (BNG). The full Terms of Reference may be read by clicking here.
Note that the meeting held on 20th February 2008 was the last meeting of this sub-committee.
Sub-committees have been reorganised to reflect the changing structure and management of the West Cumbria Sites.
A document was produced describing the Environmental Management Plan for Calder so this was made available on the website. Click on the link below to read the document. This was updated on 3rd September 2007.
Calder Hall Nuclear Power Station
Environmental Management Plan
The Executive Summary at the start of the document reads as follows:
"In August 2004, British Nuclear Group Sellafield Ltd applied to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for consent to decommission Calder Hall Nuclear Power Station in accordance with the Nuclear Reactors (Environmental Impact Assessment for Decommissioning) Regulations 1999. An Environmental Statement accompanied the application.
After a period of public consultation, the HSE duly granted consent in June 2005. Conditions were attached to the consent, primarily relating to the production and maintenance of an Environmental Management Plan covering the ongoing mitigation measures to prevent, reduce and, if possible, offset any significant adverse environmental effects of the decommissioning work.
This document is the first issue of the Calder Hall Environmental Management Plan. It will be re-issued annually or at intervals agreed with the HSE.
As Site Manager for Calder Hall, I look forward to a successful decommissioning project and on behalf of British Nuclear Group, I give my commitment to minimising any adverse effect on the environment as a consequence of our decommissioning operations." - Steve R Howard, Site Manager, Calder Hall.
